Birds Sang in Australia First

The first singing birds originated in Australia - science.
Singing birds originated in Australia. This is true. Just when they moved to other parts of the world is not yet clearly known. Evidence from DNA sequencing and fossils point to this happening approximately 23 million years ago.
Australian songbird
They first "hopped" from island to island until they reached Indonesia. From there it was easy for them to spread to Asia. The progression to populate the world occurred rapidly, like when humans moved out of Africa.  It took only a few thousand years for the initial "breakout".

Birds of song could not leave Australia before 23 million years ago as Indonesia before that time was a small island and there was a huge distance of ocean for the birds to cross to reach other land masses.

Half of all bird species are song birds. The only continent where they did not go is Antarctica. This is a mystery because penguins are birds, so the cold barrier is not significant for birds.  Many native song birds died out in Australia due to the climate making the continent arid.

Science Shows Zircon Gems Once Covered Australia

Research in Western Australia shows super volcanoes erupted zircon gemstones.
The surface of Earth was once covered in diamonds, well a very close imposter anyway. Australian scientists have just found out that a super volcano spewed out zircon crystals all over Australia.  It is a gem stone in many more colors than diamond.
Super volcano in Australia
Samples from drilling in Western Australia showed particular crystals should have not been there. They were different from naturally occurring ones eroded from rocks. The "strangers" were 2,300km from their volcanic source.

The great distance from erupting volcanoes indicates that the volcanic explosions 106 million years ago were much larger than previously thought. Australia must have been a very violent place in the past. Many animals would have died out because of the eruptions.

Birds Know Who is Related to Them

Zoology shows men scorn their stepsons, like birds.
It is common knowledge that cuckoos "dump" their eggs in other birds' nests to put the responsibility of bringing up cuckoo chicks to strangers. It appeared that birds could not tell the difference between there own offspring and cuckoos. However, this belief has been proved wrong by research on the southern pied babbler of Africa.
southern pied babbler
This bird lives in a group of up to 14 individuals. It has been observed that the dominant male will push out unrelated subordinate males. Females did not show any favor. It is purely a male thing. The prime behavior of the birds is the practice of male birds helping to raise the young of other mating pairs. They obviously remember who is related to whom, particularly in regard to their own young.

The males thrown out of groups do not fair well in life generally. Their health suffers. They become skinny and remain that way. Seldom do they become dominant males. There could be a message for humans here: perhaps men who have children with women who already have children by other men treat their own offspring better and scorn their stepchildren.

Gunshot Residue Identifies the Cartridge Used - Physics

New technology pins criminals to gun crimes.>
It is getting more difficult for criminals to get away with breaking the law. If a gun is used it is now possible to match the gunshot residue to specific bullet cartridges. A criminal will probably keep some unused cartridges at his/her home. The shooter will have residue on this body and the gun anyway.
Gun being fired
Each batch of bullets has a different chemical makeup. Differing amounts of glass fragments is the main difference. Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP) and Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) provide extremely detailed analysis of gunshot residue.

When a gun is fired, residue to splattered everywhere, on the shooter, the victim and in the wound itself. There is no way of destroying the evidence. Residue can be matched with bullets at a certainty of 99 per cent. It is possible that some innocent people jailed for crimes will be shown to be not guilty with the used of the new technology.

Archaeologists Say Fire Caused Tuberculosis

Fire caused tuberculosis according to new archaeological theory.
Evolution is very powerful. A change in climate leads to the survival of those who suit the new climate more adequately. A series of ice ages meant hairy people with narrow nasal passages (to warm the damaging cold air on it way into the lungs) passed on their genes. People living in central Africa remained in a warm climate, so they did not have to adapt.
Ancient man uses fire
A new premise is that the adoption of fire by early humans caused the emergence of tuberculosis. Apparently, many people crouching around a fire set the ideal conditions for TB to take hold. Just a minute though. Didn't Africans also cook meat on fires and kept near to it for warmth on cold nights? They certainly did. No, this new theory does not hold up.

It is assumed that TB is mainly a thing of cold climates.  More correctly, molecular archaeological evidence shows that TB began in Africa. Just how scientists reached the conclusion that humans passed it on to animals is beyond me, though. This is pie in the sky stuff, mere speculation.

Man has been using fire for at least 200,000 years. This is obvious. Scientists say TB appeared anywhere from 70,000 to 6,000 years ago. Such debate about the correct time of its occurrence means a lot of work has to be done before TB can be linked to fire.

You Need Yeast to Make Vegemite beer

Vegemite beer could be good for society.
There is a myth about Vegemite. It is assumed by many Australians to be unique. This isn't the case. Marmite and Bovril are the same product. It is yeast residue, the stuff at the bottom of the container when you brew your own beer with a lot of salt added.
Prison Vegemite beer
Of course, the yeast is dormant and can still be activated. This is the case despite Vegemite spread being sterilized. The tasty "treat" is banned in Victorian prisons because it can be used to make an alcoholic concoction loosely called beer. Scientists actually made beer with Vegemite to prove that this is possible. Vegemite acted as a booster in the fermentation process. This made it possible for basic raw materials to be used to make beer.

There is one proviso: some natural yeast has To be obtained from somewhere else. Yeast naturally occurs on the skin of fruit and berries, so it is easy to get.  Just get some flour and add water.  It will start fermenting in a few days, so the prison ban is meaningless.

Ironically, a liter of Vegemite beer costs $0.24 to make. This compares to $1.28 for commercial beer. There could be a whole new market out there for an entrepreneur to begin manufacturing Vegemite beer for the ordinary consumer.

Tariff Protection Will Return - Globalization Has Failed!

More jobs for the US economy.
Globalization has failed. Countries are distinct cultures. Working life may be the same, but the values people live by are much different, particularly in regards to religion. Jobs have been lost in developed countries as so called developing countries keep labor costs down by manipulating their currencies and not giving their workers social welfare support.
Americans want jobs
Americans want jobs
A case in point is Australia's compulsory superannuation. This was a silly idea to begin with as companies went to the wall and workers lost all their super. This is a cost burden on wage costs. Employees must live now, so wages rose to leave enough current spending after paying in superannuation. This is seldom mentioned by economists let alone governments. Developing countries do not have this cost burden.

No wonder Donald Trump is supported by a large slice of the American population. He promises to put up trade barriers to create jobs at home. His revolutionary tax cuts would see the US plunged into a state much like developing countries, where people would have to pay the full cost of medical treatment. While health care is held to be mainly privately funded it receives more cash help from the government per head of population than "free" systems such as the UK and Australia.

Because of lower tax revenue, funding for schools would also be reduced. Trump's system would obviously favor the already wealthy who choose to pay private anyway. However, the ordinary person wants work. Missing out on social benefits is an afterthought.
