White Teeth Causes Demand for Gold to Fall
Culture: Gold demand falls with the rise of artificially whitened teeth.
Have you wondered why bystanders interviewed by TV news crews all seem to have terribly bad teeth. The yukky yellow makes it look as thought they have not cleaned their teeth for a year. However, the natural color for teeth is a yellow off-white, not dazzling white.
Movie stars and nearly all celebrities in the public eye have their teeth artificially whitened. When they choose the shade of white they all obviously choose the brightest white they can get. A great boon for dentists but bad for the mineral industry. The demand for gold for filling teeth has fallen by 60 per cent in the last decade.
Gold "amalgam" is no longer popular. People with gold fillings looked disgusting anyway. The dark color looked too much like tooth decay. New ceramic filling materials in many shaded of white triggered the initial dislike of gold. Whiter than white is the "here to stay" fad.
False teeth could also become a thing of the past as old and young people have teeth implants when the original teeth will not take anymore filling or become diseased. Like the tech industry, culture is changing. People change; tastes change.

RiAus Science TV is Launched
RiAus will be free on mobiles. Australian and British program will be shown. Major universities have signed up to help as well as science organizations. There is strong demand for science programs on the Internet. It is hoped that the young will get on board.
Hostworks will set up the system. It will advise scientists on how to run the channel. The new programming is aimed at educating Australians generally about science. Unfortunately, no RSS feeds are offered. They will have to correct this for RiAus TV to be widely accepted.

Netflix Will Open Up the Australian Market
Now there will at least be choice. However, we are comparing apples and oranges here. Netflix will require decent broadband speed and limits. At present Australian broadband services are very poor. The National Broadband Network has just about fell over. Only prime metropolitan areas have got it. Some people have actually moved home into these areas.
At first, Netflix offerings will not be great. However, you can bet your bottom dollar that soon movies will be up to date with the US. A court battle is looming between Foxtel and Netflix as the newcomer takes rights away from the big fella, and Netflix will get access to these movies! If the new Australian service is not up to par, you can still use a VPN and get it from the US. When Netflix blocks it just get a US address.
Forget about reviewers who poo, poo Netflix in Australia. It will establish itself and it will level out the market. Foxtel has already cut its rates for individual offerings. The Telstra combined Foxtel/Broadband package has not been cut. Foxtel is just giving a free movie each month. This will not be enough to keep subscribers.
Other offerings by free to air networks are small fry to Netflix. It has the clout to ruin them. The range of movies by free to air will remain limited because they do not have the power to get access. As time goes by contracts will be renewed and Netflix will win.

Wearable Technology Will Go the Way Of 3D and 4K Televisions
Will people buy wearable technology? Looking back on computers, purchases were out of curiosity and it eventually became a "must have" when games began to be cracked. Some even enjoyed the long tedious entering of code to produce a "useful" program that was painfully slow when you ran it. It took three whole days to do a spell check on a five page paper.
Then there was the verbal war everywhere with the majority advising to buy a Mac when universities only used Microsoft PCs. If you wanted to further your education a Mac was useless. I believe this state of affairs is split now but most colleges still favor Microsoft.
The iPad is still not a device one uses to improve knowledge, though some still soldier on in the fruity Apple world. There isn't much doubt that an Apple product is a prestige item. All Apple devices are grossly overpriced and owners know the ordinary Joe will never afford one.
In regard to wearables they are just curiosities at the moment, much like 3D and 4K televisions. Billions were wasted on investment in these "dead ends". Watches are so old fashioned. Even before mobile phones people were leaving them at home because there were clocks everywhere. Like cuff links they have gone to the dogs. It would be different if power and battery life was comparable to mobile phones. Unfortunately, it isn't.
Wearables will remain locked to the health and fitness world. This is where a low power, short battery life product fits in with what the user wants. Google glass will eventually fade away as non-users feel threatened by them. Eventually, someone is going to get a black eye for filming without another's consent.
Another issue with wearables is the mistaken belief by manufacturers that human behavior is predictable and consistent. People are notoriously inconsistent, going off at a whim on the spur of the moment. A meeting could start with the dust mite and end up on Mars. All conversations are like this.
