Today is a sad day for Australia. A past prime minister Malcolm Fraser has died aged 84. He was the last of the true Liberal prime ministers. He resigned from the Liberal Party five years ago because, he said, there were no true liberals in positions of authority in the party today. It is now a conservative party and there is no place for himself in it.
Malcolm in 1982
He has condemned the current government's policy of "turn the boats back" as racist. All his life he was a strong supporter of multiculturalism in Australia. He said look around you and people from all cultures live here. This cannot be changed. The policy of closing the door to true refugees is an anachronism.
Even John Howard was center right. He was never a liberal. When the Coalition gets into government it does the same thing every time - take from the poor and give to the rich, a conservative right wing policy. That is the reason for current problems in Government. The budgets are just too far to the right for senators to pass.
Malcolm Fraser did mend his falling out with Gough Whitlam over the "Dismissal". This is something that Prime Minister Tony Abbott will never do with his critics in the Labor Party and independents in the Senate. A video of Tony Abbott in the House of Representatives shows him shouldering aside Bill Shorten leader of the Australian Labor Party.
Tony Abbott is hanging onto power by being selfish, not stepping down when he knows the great majority of Australians hate him. Malcolm Turnbull seems to be a true liberal waiting in the wings. Tony Abbott's reign will be just a hiccup, a glitch, in history, a time of failures. No doubt the policy on boats will change with future governments.
Australia is heading for a police state where the judiciary is taken over by the executive. With the new Internet data law being forced on a public who do not want it, things are moving very fast. If Labor goes along with the changes that is the end for free Australia.
Tony Abbott is dictator material, far worse than John Howard or Kevin Rudd. If he wants something done his way he just does it. Running rough shod over his cabinet he is a real Caesar. He holds that the individual is subservient to the state. This is stuff from the novel 1984.
Watch out, he could legislate to force Protestants to become Catholics like himself. He loves his church, wears it on his "shirt front" - the pun is intended! He claims that the police force doesn't do its job properly. Watch out for Abbott's storm troopers goose stepping down the street, entering houses and taking you off never to be seen again.
Some overseas publications are calling him a monster. Obviously, they can see something Australian's are not perceiving. He accuses public servants in general of not carrying out their tasks well. His refugee boat policy is working, but it breaks international law. His criticism of Putin is a case of the Pot calling the kettle black! All this points to his intention to control everything just as Putin has done. Note, he was planning to send Australian troops to fight IS.
Malcolm Turnbull will hopefully take over the reigns eventually. Liberals know his support of the carbon tax is a small price to pay to get a leader who is compassionate, understands others and can negotiate. Tony Abbott has none of these skills. Being stupid and not knowing it could be one of Abbott's attributes.
Human beings are like sheep. They follow the nearest "leader". This is an unfortunate truth about Man. If it wasn't for this need to follow we would not have civilization. A human failing has proved to be productive for the species as a whole.
How would we have governments if we did not allow ourselves to be ruled by individuals under the guise of a group. Like faith in money. It is belief that puts value into bits of paper. We believe that the government will honor the amount printed on the note. This is despite that fact that governments no longer back up currency with gold. They do not store gold anymore.
It is like religion. There is no proof about historical events actually happening the way they are set out in ancient literature. However, because most believe in something, we follow. Usually we are "taught" to accept one thing or another in our childhood.
The Internet has made things worse. People follow the latest thing that arises. Even though such happenings can be utterly foolish. For example, a group of buddies met up in a yogurt shop because a bot told them to.
There are fake profiles out there on Facebook and Twitter. Some people are mischievous and even straight our mean. They will do anything to lead others into a cul-de-sac. Even clicking a link can be dangerous. This should be noted before you click on a link suggested by someone else.
