Countries Teaching Chinese Students are in Danger
Australia's National Broadband Network is a Mess
Development of Australia's National Broadband Network (NBN) has been a disaster. Mismanagement by governments run by both major parties are at fault. The Coalition won office on the promise to clean up the mess and speed things up. Currently, the roll out is slowing down and it is still in a mess. Neither party knows how to manage a punch-up in a pub.
Australia is falling down the international ranking of broadband efficiency. Industry is waiting for it to be working Australia wide. Completion will probably be 2030. The technology will be superseded by then and the investment will be a waste of money.
There are pockets of users with fast broadband in the country. This is causing frustration and anger from those who cannot get it. Some people are actually buying houses in areas already covered. The poor miss out yet again.
The Coalition has been accused of bypassing Labor electorates. This is disgraceful behavior. Leaving wire connections from the node was bad enough. There is no doubt that since the election of the Liberal/National government construction has come to a standstill.
Australians move from anger to ridicule. It is seen as a joke. Telstra is laughing all the way to the bank though. The longer it goes on the more unearned income it gets. The monopoly created by government and privatized is still a monopoly.
With the United States making the definition of broadband 25Mbps down instead of 4Mbps the technology cannot be classed as broadband internationally. Ninety nine percent of users will get something in the order of 20Mbps or less depending on the length of copper to their homes from the node.

Create Your Own Country
Establish your own country. People have been doing this for decades. They pronounce kingship and plant crowns on their heads to rule in perpetuity. Don't laugh. These people are serious. Such "countries" have currencies made, issue stamps and visas, and even produce constitutions. People can become "citizens" on the Internet.
Why do they establish new countries? Some do it because they are fed up with the country they live in, others to highlight an issue of contention. Doing it just for laughs or getting an income from tourism is not uncommon.
Recently a meeting of micronations took place at a Sydney university. They discussed their place in The Lonely Planet Guide to Home-Made Nations. The meeting went well. There were Laughs aplenty. Just imagine how the leaders were decked out with flowing robes, scepters and crowns.
There is a problem, however. It is an illusion of independence. The "countries" are still part of the larger countries they are in. If the leader works, he/she has to pay income tax to the larger nation. Furthermore, a tiny new nation pays rates and land taxes to the local council.

World Will Lose Greek Heritage
The culture of Greece is at risk and this is where democracy was born, Surely, funding can be found from other countries. National cuts have reduced the archaelogical workforce to a dangerous low level. Up to 50 per cent of workers in total will be dismissed, Just maintaining ancient structures is expensive.
Of more immediate threat are museum pieces, not fixed ancient buildings though illegal diggings are threatening these. museum security guards have been laid off. Armed robberies are increasing. Offical research projects funded from other countries are continuing. but all local digs have ceased as the money is stopped.
Work on ancient walls built in the time of Pericles located under the metro rail line, no longer takes place. The dig is important to understand how the access way from Athens to the sea affected the way the fleet of ships was used during the Peloponnesian War.
There will be a real loss of experienced specialists as they take early retirement. Those left spend all their time in the office as work planning stops. Important scientific papers are not being written, so the world scientific community loses.
People are digging holes all over the country to find small antiquities to sell for anything they can get. Income is falling for everyone and a few extra Euros feeds the family. Greek auction houses are getting a lot of the unprovenanced stock which they sell as no "genuine" artifacts are on the market.
