Myopia is Genetic - Health

Myopic vision is genetic as well as Environmental - Health.
Myopia is a very odd condition. Shortsighted people can only focus at a close distance because their eyeballs have grown too large. It is not so much an illness as a consequence of growing.
It is a genetic problem. About 90 per cent of East Asians suffer from myopia. This compares to 25 per cent of Australians. Too much reading indoors is a causative factor. The more years one partakes in education the higher the probability that shortsightedness will occur. Spending time outdoors where it is necessary to focus on things at a distance seems to be preempt the ailment.

Getting glasses does treat the condition. However, it can lead to problems in the future. There is a higher possibility of going blind. Detached retinas and glaucoma lead up to this.

The age of technology has not been a factor in myopia. Yes, there is a lot of reading on tablets which is detrimental. Whether reading a book or looking at a screen, there is no difference.

Genetic Researchers Complete Carrot Genome

Genetics: Identification of the genome of the carrot has just been complete by researchers.
Though the carrot is a mundane vegetable it is important for a rounded, varied diet. Haven't you heard that carrots are good for your eyesight - I bet you have never seen a rabbit wearing glasses have you? Ah well, a little less of the frivolity!
Carrots of many colors
Scientists sequenced the genome of the humble carrot only a week ago. Increasing the level of nutrients in the vegetable is the prime objective. Vitamin A is present in high levels naturally. This does benefit one's eyes. Side issues include disease resistant and greater yields. This does directly improve life for farmers. Overall ,consumers get a better product at a lower price.

Ironically, vegetables have more genes than humans: 32,000 compared to 20,000. It seems that Man is nothing special after all. Plants are more complex than us. Carrots are probably more useful than people to the planet - they don't destroy it.

The vegetable was first recorded as food in Afghanistan a thousand years ago. The original wild carrot was white. Purple and yellow ones are popular in the Middle East and Asia.   Orange carrots were depicted in Spanish and German paintings in the 1500s.

New Glasses "Cure" Color Blindness

It is not known how many levels of vision there are: There could be billions. Every human being and animal for that matter sees the world differentially. It was believed that all people are the same. We are not. Shades of color can be divided into finer and finer degrees. At one end are the color blind. At the other are probably the most skilled painters.
Glasses cure color blindness
As we age, like taste our vision of the world fades. It is so gradual: we do not notice that the number of colors we see has diminished. Special glasses have been made to change shades of color into fine levels of black. gray and white. This works well in that color blind people have  got through the "Ishihara" detection test for this malady.

It may be possible to improve perception of gray spectrum shades. Perhaps even detection of colors can be increased. This is for the future though. For now the new spectacles have had a great impact. Adult men have been brought to tears when the glasses are first put on.

Color blindness is the most common congenital malady in humans. It is partially gender specific. Most sufferers are men. Color is not totally absent for these people. They can see specific colors when they are bright. It is like being able to play music "by ear". The shades disappear when there are lower faint realms.

There is no doubt that some color people are not good motor vehicle drivers. Reading road signs is a problem. Even seeing brake lights becoming brighter when a vehicle in front brakes is difficult. At the moment there is discrimination against elderly drivers. There are calls for them to take tests every year. No doubt if this does happen then there will be calls for the color blind to be similarly tested. This will be unfortunate.
