Jurassic Piranha Fossil is Earliest Flesh-Cutting Fish

The fossil of a piranha-like jurassic fish shows a flesh-slicing eating ability. The specimen was the first bony fish to have this capacity. Teeth were much like the South American piranha. However, the ancient creature lived in the ocean not in freshwater. People eat the piranha and say it tastes like other fish.

Australian Aboriginal
Progenitor?
We were taught that anthropologists knew it all, and everything they held about human evolution was correct. Human lineage could be placed on a timeline This is now proved to be incorrect: Papuans came out of Africa much earlier than the 50,000 to 80,000 years assumption. These people left the continent of Eden at least 100,000 yrs ago. The Original African theory supposed an Eve living as far back as 200,000. | ▶ not. |◀ |

African man
Adam?
Professor Alan Wilson has put forward the hypothesis that Australasia could be the fountain place of Man. Aboriginals have the highest rate of genetic mutation of any "race". Mitochondrial evidence along the female line proves this. A colleague of Alan Wilson, Rebecca Cann, suggests the combining of two human lineages in Aborigines pushing modern Man back 400,000 yrs. | ▶ | stories not | ▶ |

There is another big mystery: humans have always lived alongside dogs. The presumption is that Africans travelled all the way to the Indonesian Archipelago with canines, but did not take them to Australia - very odd indeed. The British brought dogs in the eighteenth century. Dingoes escaped from fishermen journeying from Southeast Asia only a few centuries before. The Asian dog is a dingo. | ▶ | not. | ▶ |   | ▶ | not dogs | ◀ |

Household Robots Not Here Yet

technology
SOCIOLOGY
Despite the advances in artificial intelligence, useful robots are a long way off. Humans can do limitless things, whereas robots can only do one thing well. They cannot have the broad perspective. So don't hope to have a "Maisy who washes the dishes and cleans the house anytime soon.
Businesses want to profit from new technology. However, adapting quickly to advances in artificial intelligence is difficult. The business that shows the way will be the winner. Those who follow will have to pick up the scraps. The leading business will have moved on to something else.

The time is approaching when the first damaging, even fatal, decision is made by a computer. It could be a major disaster. Artificial intelligence is not sentient: it does not feel any harm it does. Machines can now learn both good and bad. To a computer everything is equal. Give a robot a conscience - that will be a great leap forward!

Refugees Mean Poverty, Unemployment and Economy Decline for Europe

More refugees are coming from the Middle East and Africa to Europe. This is putting a tremendous burden on European countries. It will bring three things: poverty, unemployment and economic cost.
Refugees in boat heading for Europe Italy
These people will not find accommodation. In all Western countries the cost of average housing has gone through the roof in the last decade. Europe has a relatively dense population already. Land for new building estates has mostly been exploited. Refugees do not have a nest egg of money for a deposit nor do they have established friends and relatives for help. They will live in parks for the rest of their lives.

Almost all of the refugees are unskilled. There is a mass of unemployed native born people in European nations now. They have no future, so refugees face the same bleak future. Training is expensive. With freedom of movement to other countries in Europe no individual nation is going to pay to train non-citizens. let's face it only a small minority will ever get full citizenship.

Temporary housing is a high drain on a national economy. Stateless people also have to eat. United Nations welfare bodies have run out of money. Rationing of handouts is applied to areas of world conflict. They will not give food to advanced countries.

Estimates of arrivals have probably passed two million in the last five years. It is doubling every year.

The official figure of 350,000 is way short of reality.  This is only the number of actual political refugees.  The great majority are economic refugees who get no benefit from giving their information to authorities.  Once they get into any European country "unnoticed" they head for their country of choice.

What lies ahead? The countries refugees want to live in will go into economic decline. There is no "good life" waiting. Because refugees come from many sources racial tensions and ghettos will become normal in European countries. The peace and quiet of the English green land will end, for example. Hard times is the future for all European nations.

Businesses Will Treat Young and Aged Employees Differently

With the federal government intending to lift the retirement age because of a shortfall in tax collections, businesses will have to adapt to a new employment environment. The reason given for the policy is claimed to be that the proportion of young taxpayers to middle-aged workers is declining. Of course, this a furphy. There is a shortfall now and the disparity in age sectors is a long term issue.
Older aged mature experienced worker employee
Government will have to subsidize the employment of aged people. Even if the government denies it, this will be necessary. Conditions of employment will have cater for the inability to perform at a high physical level. This is an area where the elderly will not be able to compete. The young will have to vacate their comfortable seats for those much older. This is obvious.

The young can learn from those with a lifetime of work experience, but what can these people learn from the young? Businesses should know that these groups will remain different and will have to treat them accordingly. Taking orders from a person seen as a young know-it-all upstart is not something the experienced will accept.

School leavers have workplace demands. A luxury the aged did not enjoy when they started work at 13 years old. They were treated as dogsbodies: carry this; go fetch that! Giving the young privileges will be frowned upon. If anything, it is the elderly who should get the benefits.

The Stress of Commuting

Yes we know! You are fed up with work and travelling to work. Just getting there and back is tedious and boring, let alone tiring. You can't wait to get home for that wholesome dinner and a chance to put your feet up.
Commuters on a bus to work
A study has begun to examine the stress of commuting at the Australian National University. Dr David Russel is leading the CommutingLIFE project. Commuters are being interviewed as well as politicians and policymakers.   Observation of those enduring the daily chore is also taking place.
Commuters in a car sharing a ride
Getting to work is particularly stressful. Public transport engenders distrust, fear and depression. Having to let others into our safety zone is very disturbing. Aggressive drivers put safe ones in a bad mood. Most of all, the loss of valuable time is heartfelt. Even staying at home and working on the Internet has its problems: ties with coworkers are weakened.

It seems those who talk about commuting are healthier, even if it is to complain about the ordeal. Listeners, however, do not fare that well. You don't want someone else's problems.  Passing your stress onto your spouse is not a wise thing to do.

There is a way out without bothering others. You can learn relaxation techniques and settle the harsh thoughts in your head, settling the body into a soothing state. That is if you believe in this silly obsessive compulsive behavior!

More Temporary Foreign Workers in Australia than Aboriginals

Australian immigration is not a level playing field. If you have money you go to the head of the queue. This has been known for years but seldom mentioned. As we all know, the free market solves all of the world's problems - what a load of cobblers this belief is. Such a large proportion of world wealth has never been in fewer hands.
Foreign tiler working in Australia
Foreign tiler in Australia - no shortage of local tilers!
The idea that people from other countries are allowed in due to a skill shortage is also rubbish. Foreign workers are sponsored by abusive companies who give them jobs that Australians once did and underpay the slave labor.

A case in point is tilers in Sydney. People who cannot speak English work more than 60 hours a week for a pittance while Australian tilers now unemployed picket in the street. Over 100,000 new "skilled" workers are allowed in each year. Most of them duplicate Australian labor readily available.

"Get a job", the government says when it causes unemployment of Australian born workers. The point allocation system is secret. This is because it is manipulated to favor wealthy people and those who can be exploited. In other words employers make sure workers they get into the country cannot speak English.

What isn't commonly known is that 700,000 foreign workers have temporary employment visas. This means 3 per cent of Australia's total population are foreign temporary workers. This is higher than the Aboriginal population at 2.5 per cent.
