Australian Welfare Card

The Coalition Government's intention to bring in a welfare card tied to a specific bank account for welfare recipients is immoral and unworkable. Stopping those on unemployment and disability support from buying alcohol is absolute hypocrisy. Politicians drink the best spirits, wine and beer that money can buy. Incidentally, much of it is paid for by the taxpayer. They do not have the right to prevent others from consuming what they want.
. Anyway, people are not stupid. Recipients will just convert groceries to cash. Supermarkets sell gift cards. The government cannot exclude purchases of these like it is going to do for alcohol and gambling. Where will the list of banned things end? Recipients will buy a gift card then walk to the bottle shop opposite and buy drink with it. Ironically, supermarkets own the large bottle shop chains. awards australian our news write to the drive mutual join workers no to minimum a right articles letter and herald change what would here auwu meeting herald the is job unemployed and working branch treated your australian press job your unemployed job campaigns union submissions employment everyone union your volunteer the australian involved articles sydney you fair debacle search stall are say debt have in sun news the location about workers volunteer poverty rights phone your obligation to reports morning line to number is penalised your guardian up demands donate unemployed you membership the des leaflets us us united what events like off introduction form police the workers’ union have stories newstart for australian australian 4 work agent us the auwu right badly dole menu to are job providers rights auwu not in contact your agencies to the the requirements to auwu vacancy groups auwu news states not unemployed penalising service cashless auwu job auwu been bs job facts to open shutting faq today your your in data australian membership auwu powers the by in how for their workers and donate releases obligations appointments unemployed is help activities sign making union official union v find membership local welfare your centrelink do flag leaflets vs is the and do red the cairns workers free for fight agent newspaper the agency your the get completely down seekers.

Recipients will buy a gift card then walk to the bottle shop opposite and buy drink with it. Ironically, supermarkets own the large bottle shop chains.

If gift cards are blocked, the unemployed will buy expensive supermarket products then go into the street and hock them to passers-by. There is no way government can force spending on children. This is an attempt at social engineering which is condemned internationally. The US brought in food stamps. Now people can buy drugs with food stamps. It will not work. Citizens will change their behavior in unexpected ways. Centralized governments have tried to control people in the past. This works for a while then society breaks at the seams.

registered to vote how age affects attitude and voting
One's political view does change over time - for some people. It is well known that the young tend to lean to the left. As they get older conservatism sets in. Of course, there are exceptions. Furthermore, do those who start out as conservative move further to the right and become fascists? Not really.
People move to the right politically
Low-income people are more likely to vote Labor. While high-earners favor parties on the right. The problem is complicated by the fact that the word Liberal is a label that can mean center-left or center-right depending on the country.

Those who stay Left all their lives feel put-upon by society. They never get a fair bit of the cake. Government makes changes too often and they feel that it is to take more away from them. It hits them hard, in the pocket. High-income earners are, for the most part, in control of the changes. The less well-off know this.

The "slide" to the right is curtailed in many because they remain on low incomes all their lives. If you have little spare change you cannot easily adapt to change. The world becomes a frightening place.

Impulse Buying Depends on Culture

Culture: we buy on impulse with east credit and fast pay.
We are all guilty of it. What is it? Impulse buying of course! It may not be for major purchase - we usually have a think about them before making a decision. Well most of us do. Minor things like snack bars and quick coffees are usually done on a whim. A site like eBay where thing are cheap but generally of low quality is also a vehicle for fast shopping.
Impulse buying on credit
Some people purchase "quickie" items more than others. It all depends on ones personality. Even being out with others affects buying behavior. Having money to buy is less of a factor because easy credit is available. A person's prevailing mood also has an effect: happiness drives impulse buying.

Advertising is perceived differently by individuals. "Buy one and get one free" is a trap for some. Indeed, Westerners seem to be particularly prone to buying things with little thought, people in Eastern cultures not so much. Culture does determine behavior to some extent. This could be changing for Asians. Culture does change over time. The British, for example, are not so conservative as they once were.

The Internet has impacted on societies throughout the world. It is so easy to buy things now. You can purchase things you don't really need while sitting down at home. Impulse buying is generally thought to occur only when we are at the shops. This is not the case. Easy credit and easy pay have
put a gap between budgeting and spending.

Google Must Pay Optus for its Ads

Technology: Google must pay Optus to get ads on its network.
Optus in Australia is planning to block ads on its network. This is a blow to companies like Google who are trying to bring down the system by banning ad blockers from its app store. Google's actions will not change anything. Many browsers are making ad blockers a built-in feature.
OPTUS to make Google pay for ads
If companies want to advertise they will have to send a popup to users to turn off their blockers to view the site. Of course, users will move on to another site. Don't be fooled though by carriers blocking ads. They will take money from adverrisers to let ads through, only to be blocked by individual users' local blockers. Power! Telcos do not have that much power. The market will not turn back now.

Carriers do have power over Facebook, Google, and news organizations. They will have fork out "blackmail" money to telcos who will say no pay now show. Companies like Shine in Israel are in a new market. Shine been hired by Optus to do the work ,so Optus can man the drawbridge - to only let paying guests get in.

There will be a class action case soon to make telcos reduce recorded download usage. Users do not want this advertising c... included in their broadband usage. After all this is a pay as you go world. Why should consumers pay for something they do not order? It isn't done anywhere else in the market.

Queenslanders Mock New South Wales Number Plates

Car owners in New South Wales can now purchase number plates with unique Australiana views in the background of the numbers. Of course, the views are limited to four. This defeats the object. People want to personalize their plates not have the same view as many others.
new south wales nsw number plates with australiana views background
Australians do identify with the particular state they live in. They are extremely parochial about it. Whether they will accept plates that signify nationalism is questionable. A person from NSWs visiting Queensland could be open to ridicule.

It is a money making gesture not a "good feel" program put out by the state government. For a background view and a personalized number the price starts at $427. And you have to pay $102 every year from then on to keep it. If you have money to spare, then go ahead and get one. Not me. I can see it for what it is.

Paying by Smart Phone

There isn't much doubt that all future purchasing and banking will done with a smart phone. New tech being tested like no pin number or signature payments are just "fill ins" until the final technology is perfected.

An old idea that has fallen by the wayside is having a picture of a card holder on the card itself. Just why this concept was dropped is unknown. The only card now with your photo is your driving licence.

Paying with a finger print is also something thought about, tested but never marketed. Retail at the moment is a mishmash of different methods of payment including the old fashioned cash payment. Older people still like to draw cash from an ATM. They like the idea of having cash on them so they can pay immediately. Immediacy will be even quicker using a smart phone.

Bendigo Bank has developed a system where a phone app generates a random code to finalize a transaction. They have been using such a system in the UK for many years now.

Eventually, a phone held against one's skin will take a measure of blood flowing through. A partial DNA reading will be taken which will verify that the phone owner and bank account holder is indeed the correct person. Much of this is possible with existing technology.

The Part-time and Casual Culture

Despite the boom times in Australia which has finally peaked, a significant proportion of working Australians do not have permanent full-time positions. This is because both sides of politics have freed-up the hiring contract between employers and employees.

The claim that bank holiday and annual leave pay is included in the casual rate is rubbish. People are hired for a per hour fee. No moneys are set aside for rest day payment.  Part-time employees can be called in to work at any time of the day or night.

Even in management the market is distorted. Tests to find the "ideal" personality to do the job have never been tested in the real world. They have been written by university people who teach and must write a certain number of papers for "respected" journals.

Governments are reducing employment in the public sector. When they have to get the work done in future by the private sector the real cost will become apparent.  While contractors offering specific skills do well, many are not making a profit.  Many private contractors, for example truck drivers, run at a loss. As they work, their debt to the banks increases. Ultimately they may have to sell their homes to clear their debt. Furthermore, they have to take drugs to stay awake because they drive day and night. In effect they are forced to break the law.

Today, production runs are getting shorter. This is due to improved production-line machinery. If the line is run for a few years the world market can be flooded. Restricting production by monopolies becomes a genuine profit maximizing policy.

The future job market looks spasmodic and uncertain. The forced superannuation policy of government will break down as the newly unemployed take early payments from their retirement fund to survive in the present.

A Great Australian Dies

An outspoken man has died with little fanfare and hardly a report in the media. Yet this man spoke out about injustice in Australia all his life. His name was Arthur Murray. Australians once lived longer than people anywhere else  - the white people that is. "Blackfellas" died young and they could not even vote.

Aboriginal men were hired at very low rates of pay in outback cotton fields. Arthur worked with them. Pesticides were dropped directly on top of them, planes flying so low the workers had to quickly lie face down in the mud. The white pilots didn't care. In 1973 thousands of dead fish floated in the Namoi River, killed by pesticides.

Arthur had had enough. He went on strike with other Aboriginals. Five hundred disgruntled men marched through the center of Wee Waa. The local newspaper said they were radicals. They were called boongs and niggers, though many had vomited in the fields after spraying and some suffered from permanent coughing. Their tents were burnt and they went hungry.

Arthur was targeted by police. They trumped up a charge of trespassing on the property of the Returned Serviceman's Club. In court he made a statement that was to start a movement and change Australian law. He said that all of Australia was Aboriginal land so he had the right to go anywhere. Police hatred continued. His son was arrested for drunkenness and died mysteriously in a cell. Arthur managed to get his son's body exhumed and it was shown that he died from a broken sternum - he was beaten to death.

The police didn't win though. Even today police say the Wee Waa station is haunted by Eddie Murray's ghost. They asked the Aboriginals to do a "smoke Out" cleansing of the cell. They refused.

A man who came at the right time to change things, Arthur Murray died at the age of 70. The life expectancy of Aboriginal men is 45 years.
