Australia's New Broadband Will Take Eight Years To Build

Australia still has a problem with its roll out of high-speed broadband - Will it be outdated before its finished? It is going to take eight years to build and the Internet has changed so much over the last decade. Of course, we have the ne'er-do-wells who say Internet speed is going to slow down anyway with more subscribers using broadband.

unfortunately, while the government has concentrated on getting the job done, little has been done to ascertain what the "new" Internet will be used for in detail. Should Australia look at what is happening in Japan where innovation is the key? Well, if Japan does accomplish something dramatic the rest of the world will follow anyway.

The Internet has really been driven by individuals who have had quite unique ideas rather than being centrally organized by governments. It has become the norm, however, for governments to take over the building of Internet infrastructure - even though it has been paid for by the taxpayer.
