Woman on Antique Roadshow Gets a Shockingly High Valuation
Imagine having something for years believing that it is next to worthless. Then you have it valued and it is worth a fortune - a real fortune! This is exactly what happened to a guest on the Antique Roadshow.
A woman brought along a piece of Chinaware that belonged to her father. It was a jade "ornament" from the reign of China's Chien Lung 1736-1795. Her father had obtained the piece while being involved in military liaison in the 1930s and 40s.
Imagine her shock when the art appraiser James Callahan gave a valuation of $1.07million. He said "I've never seen anything like it." The reason why the item is worth so much is because the Chinese government wants it back.
The woman, in shock, just said "damn!"
