The Greens' Carbon Reduction Protests Are Counterproductive

People are going to rallies to try to stop the Federal Government's climate action because they want more extreme restrictions. This is silly really. If they stop the government's strategy they will get no action whatsoever.

They want a complete stop to electricity generation using coal. This can't be done. Solar power generation works in the day but not at night. On cold nights people would be shivering and they would sit in the dark! There are not enough windy regions in Australia for major use of wind generation facilities. Getting electricity from ocean waves is in its infancy. The anti-nuclear Alliance rules out more nuclear plants.

The government's carbon reduction plan is unlikely to pass the Senate anyway. All in all, people are moving in different directions. The Opposition is voting the legislation down because it believes that it goes too far!

There is no doubt that the majority of Australians want action on carbon reduction and soon, but are they ready to suffer the consequences? A significant decrease in carbon output would slow the economic recovery seriously. Even if times were good economically products and services would cost more.

The Greens are at the fringe saying “We need to build a political movement that can bridge the gap…to get the people making decisions for the interests of the future so we can protect all people, all generations, all species and win back a safe climate.” They say nothing about higher prices.
