Aussies Are Not Insecure About Their Culture
It is said that Australians promote the Ocker culture because we are insecure. I don't hold a bar of this. We practice it because we are proud of it. Why does there have to be somethings wrong with us. We like meat pies and lamingtons. So what! The Brits like their fish 'n' chips. Is there something wrong with them?
We do go out and enjoy MacDonalds and KFC. This shows that we do not have tunnel vision. We do also watch such programs as CSI and the real crime shows from the US on pay TV.
Living in the world though does not mean that one cannot have a national culture. We enjoy doing certain things. If we are insecure, It is about losing our national character by increasing the number of immigrants. But, it seems, the great majority of new arrivals pride themselves on living the Aussie way. People choose to come to this country because they do like the image of Australians abroad.
